Reminders...

Front Row:
I assigned some lessons on Front Row.  When you log into Front Row, choose The Number System, then select Assigned Practice instead of adaptive practice.  Choose lesson 8.  I will also give extra tickets for any lesson you complete on Front Row from the adaptive practice.  Remember we are working on Ratios and Proportions, The Number System or Numbers in Base Ten.

Learn Zillion:
You will receive 2 extra tickets for every assigned lesson you complete before January 13th.

Lexia:
Continue using Lexia at home. Your goal is to finish the program as soon as possible. Congratulations to the student (Z) who has already completed the program! :)

AR:
Your goal is to finish a chapter book by January 13th, so you can kick off the 3rd quarter by taking a quiz and earning some points. You need to be reading every day, or you will find that your reading level will go down. If you don't use it, you lose it!

Science Project:
Your science project is due on January 15th. Be sure to be working on it while you are off. It's coming up fast!

Wednesday, December 17, 2014

Our Goal: 3,600 points
So Far We've Earned: 2,560 points
We NEED: 1,040 points to reach our goal!

1,040 points need to be earned by the 6th grade classes before December 18th. Homework these next two weeks will include much more independent reading, and less worksheets, so that students have the opportunity to make up those points.

Come on students! Let's see our principals eat some bugs! Crunch, crunch, yum! ;)

Science Fair Projects

By this time, students should be working on gathering results on their experiment. Please be sure to ask your student about the experiment they chose, and help them stay on track. Feel free to email me if there are any questions. My email can be found above on the "Contact Mrs. MacQueen" tab.

Science Fair Progress

I hope you have had some time while we are off to work on your science fair project.  At this point, students should make a list of materials needed and gather materials.  They should decide and list the procedures to be used.  Then they should start experiments/investigation and collect data. I will continue to post progress updates on the blog.  Feel free to work ahead, but do not get behind.  Science fair projects are due on January 15 at 9:15 am.

Thanksgiving Break

Over the break, please continue reading your AR books. When we return on December 1st, you will be able to test on all the AR books you have read. Working on Lexia and Front Row is also a good idea :) Getting a head start on your science project will really help you during this time as well. Remember if you have a question, email me. Hope you have a happy thanksgiving with your family! See you in December.

AR Update

Students who are working toward their AR goals are reading more than ever before. I'm so proud of them! Many started with shorter picture books to increase their reading speed (fluency), but are now ready for something more challenging. Beginning December 1st, students will only be able to read chapter books for AR. Even though they won't be able to read as many books, the books they do read are worth more points. I know they are ready for this next step in AR, and I'm excited to see them improve even more.

Digital Citizenship

Being a good citizen on the internet is important as you grow up with technology. Everything you post stays out there. Here are a few good tips:

Science Fair Progress

By this time, students should have submitted their Science Fair Question. Many students have done this and I have already approved their ideas. Unfortunately, there are still 10 students who have not submitted their idea. It is critical to keep pace with this process, otherwise students may find themselves overwhelmed. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns regarding the science fair.

Science Fair Problem to Investigate

Today, students will be coming home with the form that shows the science fair problem they would like to investigate. These forms are due on Wednesday, November 5th. I will approve your student's idea, or help them decide on an appropriate experiment.

Argument Essay

Students should be coming home today with their Argument Essays that need to be published. Most have just a little more work to do on them. We have been working on them for two weeks and they won't have any more classroom time to complete them. Please ask them to share their essays with you.

Up for a Challenge?

I have a BIG announcement to make. The 6th grade teachers officially challenge the 6th graders to earn 350 AR points by October 3rd. Why? Well, if you would like to see your teacher have a pie smashed in her face by the top point earner in class, you better get reading! The more you read, the more you can test. The more you can test, the more points you will earn. The more points you earn, the better your chances are of reaching your goal. Remember, this is a group goal, so encourage your classmates to read as much as possible. Good luck!
