Announcements
*Conferences: Please return the conference form if you haven't already. I still have several students without an appointed conference time. If I don't receive it back, I will assign you a conference time and send the notice home with your child.
*6th Grade Typing Club: Begins on Tuesday, September 30th at 8:30 a.m. in the Skills Lab (Room 21).Those of you who've returned your permission slip and received a Typing Club Card may go through the office, show your card, and head to Room 21. Keyboarding is an important skill to have, and you can only get faster with practice!
*AR Challenge: On October 3rd, the 6th grade teachers will be getting a cream pie smashed into their faces. The 6th graders met their first AR Challenge of the year! The highest point earner in each class will have the "pleasure" of smashing the pie in their teacher's face. I wonder what the next challenge might be... :)

Conferences
Conference letters were sent home on Monday. For the first quarter, conferences are mandatory. It's a great time to touch base with me on your child's progress in 6th grade, and to ask any questions you may have. I highly encourage for your child to attend the conference as well. Please return the forms as soon as possible so I can then send a confirmation of your appointment home with your child. I look forward to meeting with you.

Announcements
*On Friday, students were all given a permission slip to join the Typing Club. This is for 6th graders only and will be held before school. The Typing Club will begin on September 30th.
*This week, students were assigned a Character Change Project. We have started it in class and students will have time in class to continue working on it, however some aspects may need to be completed at home. Please ask your student about the project, and even have them explain it to you. These will be due on September 26th.
*Friday will be our next AR test. Students need to be completed with their novel by then. If students have already finished their book, they need to test, and then select another. I have recently ordered plenty of brand new books for our classroom library, so there is a big selection for them to choose from. I highly encourage you to visit the Fontana Lewis Library with your child as well if they'd like more options.
*Monday, September 22nd, we are taking our ELA Benchmark. Please be sure you are well rested and have a full belly in the morning. Don't be late! :)

reading their AR book for 20 minutes. Whenever students finish a book
they should take the test on that book the next day in class and select a new

*Parent conferences are the week of

held in the afternoon. Sign ups for conferences will be coming home soon.
Please make it a point to sign up for a conference so we can discuss your

SES Tutoring
Today, students are coming home with a Supplemental Educational Services Application. This provides students with about $2,000 worth of tutoring for free. As a parent, you can choose if you'd like your child to focus on reading or math, however I recommend reading. Please return the application as soon as possible to secure your spot. There are many convenient options as to where you'd like your child to receive services. Some providers will even go to your home to tutor, or if you'd prefer, they can work with your child after school.
If parents decline this offer of SES tutoring, I need a written note with the reason why please. It is a great opportunity that really should be taken advantage of.
