Keyboarding is an important skill to have, and you can only get faster with practice!

The highest point earner in each class will have the "pleasure" of smashing the pie in their teacher's face. I wonder what the next challenge might be... :)

Announcements

*On Friday, students were all given a permission slip to join the Typing Club. This is for 6th graders only and will be held before school. The Typing Club will begin on September 30th.

*This week, students were assigned a Character Change Project. We have started it in class and students will have time in class to continue working on it, however some aspects may need to be completed at home. Please ask your student about the project, and even have them explain it to you. These will be due on September 26th.

*Friday will be our next AR test. Students need to be completed with their novel by then. If students have already finished their book, they need to test, and then select another. I have recently ordered plenty of brand new books for our classroom library, so there is a big selection for them to choose from. I highly encourage you to visit the Fontana Lewis Library with your child as well if they'd like more options.

*Monday, September 22nd, we are taking our ELA Benchmark. Please be sure you are well rested and have a full belly in the morning. Don't be late! :)

*Parent conferences are the week of October 13.  Students have minimum days all week and conferences will be held in the afternoon.  Sign ups for conferences will be coming home soon.  Please make it a point to sign up for a conference so we can discuss your child's progress in 6th grade.

SES Tutoring

Today, students are coming home with a Supplemental Educational Services Application. This provides students with about $2,000 worth of tutoring for free. As a parent, you can choose if you'd like your child to focus on reading or math, however I recommend reading. Please return the application as soon as possible to secure your spot. There are many convenient options as to where you'd like your child to receive services. Some providers will even go to your home to tutor, or if you'd prefer, they can work with your child after school.

If parents decline this offer of SES tutoring, I need a written note with the reason why please. It is a great opportunity that really should be taken advantage of.
